4-H Baking Contest

Highlands County 4-H is hosting a baking contest at the Pearce Homestead (formally known as the Edna Pearce Lockett Estate), Family Day on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Participants may submit one cake or a dozen cupcakes made from scratch for judging. Entries will be judged by the age division for appearance, taste, texture, aroma, and execution of recipe. A complete judging rubric can be obtained from the Highlands County 4-H Office. Preregistration is required. All items must be delivered to the Old School House at the Pearce Homestead between 10 & 11 AM on October 1. After judging is completed there will be a cake sampling, where people can vote for their favorite cake or cupcakes. Awards will be given out to age division winners as well as one People's Choice winner. Age divisions: Cloverbud: 5-7 years old (as of September 1) Junior: 8-10 (as of September 1) Intermediate: 11-13 (as of September 1) Senior: 14-18 (as of September 1) Adult: Amateur bakers over the age of 18. Rules: Participants may submit one cake or a dozen cupcakes for judging on a disposable cake board or stand. The recipe with a full list of ingredients must be included with the item submitted. Cakes and cupcakes must be made from scratch. No boxed mixes will be permitted. Items submitted must not require refrigeration. *Please remember to follow food safety guidelines. Notes - This baking contest is a family fun event that open to youth ages 5-18 and even adult amateur bakers.
